Founded in 2000 by François Sarhan, CRwTH is an european artist's collective (France, Germany, Makedonia,), which is active in concerts, musical theater and multimedia performances.
CRwTH was the name for an Welsh folk string instrument. It had an awful sound, its name was impossible to pronounce for non welsh, it disappeared at the turn of the XXth century. The place was free. The new CRwTH is a collective for music and various multimedia performances . Musically speaking it's a band, and a band is not an ensemble ! - CRwTH plays amplified instruments - CRwTH performs by heart. - CRwTH mixes written and improvised music. CRwTH is a project launched by French composer François Sarhan. It is a music project as well as a performing group and a collective for dance, visual art performances. It stems from a strong will to refresh live contemporary music. François Sarhan writes and rewrites the music for the circumstances of specific projects: it changes, stretches, transforms and blends in the programs with revivals from composers off the contemporary mainstream such as Frank Zappa, Robert Wyatt... CRwTH is made of multi-instrument players, coming from all over Europe (from France to Makedonia) who want to make modern music attractive through a lively performing dimension too rarely present on stage today. CRwTH projects have each their specific touch and musicians. They are based on intensive rehearsal process very necessary to mix musical personnalities and to achieve a sophisticated interaction between interpretation and improvisation, between instruments and electronics. It makes the performance inventive and original. Crwth is 100% here on stage.
